Birthday Song Flamingo Birthday Card

Hi friends!

The flamingos are back for the final card from this week’s Birthday Song Online Class to Go, but this time I’ve given them a completely different setting.

Rather than the strong, colourful background used on the first card, I’ve gone with much softer pink tones for this design. I really like how differently the same stamped image works just by changing the surrounding colours and layout.

The flamingos are positioned inside a large circular focal point, on top of a shimmer vellum circle.  I added a little sun towards the top and some grass along the bottom to give the flamingos a simple scene without making the background too busy.

The Petal Pink DSP, from the Beautiful Ordinary Life pack,  continues the colour theme through the rest of the card. Keeping the background fairly subtle means the flamingos remain the obvious focal point.

I added some coordinating twine across the lower part of the card, then layered the Happy Birthday sentiment over the top. A few gems finish everything off.

This card is also a good example of how you can get more from your stamps by using the same image in very different ways. The flamingos on the first card have quite a fun, lively feel, while this version is softer and more restrained, despite using exactly the same main image.

Birthday Song Seaside Birthday Card

Hi friends!

For the second project from this week’s Online Class to Go, I’ve moved from flamingos to a completely different group of characters from the Birthday Song stamp set.

This birthday card features a fun little seaside scene with seals, a walrus and several tiny birds. There are lots of little details in these images, but I wanted to keep the rest of the card relatively simple so that the characters remained the focus.

The soft Hydrangea Hue checked paper works really well for the background and gives the card a completely different feel to the first project. I added a large Basic White panel through the centre for the stamped scene, with a narrow Calypso Coral mat helping to separate it from the background.

The images only need fairly simple colouring, so you don’t need to spend ages colouring every part of the scene. I especially like the little touches of yellow on the birds, which add just enough colour to an otherwise fairly neutral group of characters.

A banner-style Happy Birthday sentiment sits towards the top left, leaving plenty of room for the scene itself.

I also added some embellishments and a little extra detail around the background to finish the card.

It’s a fun birthday card that would work for a wide range of recipients, particularly if you’re looking for something other than flowers or a traditional birthday design.

Birthday Song Birthday Card

Hi friends!

If you like birthday cards with a bit of personality, the Birthday Song stamp set is a fun one to play with! For the first card from this week’s Online Class to Go, I’ve used the group of flamingos to create a bright and colourful birthday card.

I’ve paired the flamingos with the stunning Scenic Coast Designer Series Paper, which does a lot of the work for this card! Very little else is needed. It works so well with the flamingos, which I’ve coloured with Stampin’ Blends and then fussy cut.  The little row of stamped musical notes above them is a fun extra detail, in keeping with the name of the stamp set – Birthday Song.

I added a simple Happy Birthday sentiment in the bottom corner, with a couple of layered banner pieces helping it stand out against the colourful background. Some ribbon across the bottom and a few embellishments finish everything off.

This is a fun design that could easily be changed by using a different background paper or colour combination. You could keep the flamingos fairly realistic, as I have here, or go completely different with the colours. After all, they’re birthday flamingos, so I don’t think the normal rules necessarily apply!
